Library Loan Policy

All items must be checked out under a valid Nottawa Township Library card. Library cards will be issued to anyone 16 years of age or older, who has a photo ID with their current address or other proof of permanent address.  Children, 15 years of age and younger, will need a parent or guardian to apply for their library card.

A patron must be a resident of Nottawa, Lockport, or Florence Township to obtain a free library card.  Two options are available for nonresidents.  Option one offers access to all of Nottawa Township Library’s services, the physical collection, digital items, and Interlibrary Loan.  The fee for Nonresident Full Access is S120.00 annually.  Option two offers access to Nottawa Township Library’s physical collection.  The fee for Nonresident Physical Collection Access is S50.00 annually.  Vested Community Partner access will be granted to educators who are nonresidents serving within Nottawa Township.  These fee schedules are an annual agreement between the Nottawa Township Library and the cardholder.  The library may revise the fee schedule which will apply at the cardholder’s next annual renewal date.

Nottawa Township Library allows fiction, non-fiction, audiobooks, and magazines to be checked out for a two-week loan period.   Movies are limited to three (3) per household, one TV series per checkout.  The movies will be checked out under the adult’s name in the household.  The adult may give permission for children in their household to check out movies without the adult being present.  However, the library cannot restrict access to materials and it remains the adult’s responsibility to approve the selection.

Items may be renewed in person, by phone, or online if there are no pending reserves.  A maximum of two renewals will be permitted. Items can be returned in our drop box. Overdue fines are not charged for overdue books or magazines. Movies that are overdue may be charged at $1.00 per day per video with the maximum charge being $10.00 per occurrence.  Fees up to the cost of the material may be charged for lost or damaged items. Borrowing privileges may be restricted until all overdue items are returned and any fines are paid.

Reference materials have either an “overnight” loan status or can be used only within the library.  The library will make five (5) free copies from non-circulating items and five (5) free copies of reference materials from the Internet or online reference sources for school projects.

Items can be interloaned from other libraries in Michigan who participate in MelCat.  Patrons must have no outstanding overdues or fines to use this service. The lending library is able to set an overdue / replacement fine amount.

Digital services are offered by Nottawa Township Library.  Digital content is managed externally by service providers. Nottawa Township Library cannot guarantee the content is appropriate for all audiences.  The adult who authorizes a minor’s account must supervise the minor’s selections.  Digital content loan policies will be set for each service dependent on funds and use during the library’s fiscal year.
